Sir Winston Churchill is the largest school in the lower mainland, consisting of over 2000 students with a large staff size. Living in such a large community, it is often difficult to feel connected with everyone - there are rarely any large events in school that attract numerous students, and even the school dances can hardly attract a maximum of around four-hundred people.
The main goal of the Student Social Networking Club is to create a student based website to promote a sense of unity and connection within the school community - students to students, students to school, students to teachers, and finally students to the community as a whole. Initially, there will be daily updates, sports video highlights, pictures of the day and information on volunteer opportunities. Through the promotion of school events online, we hope that students will become aware of different possible activities around the school and take part in them.
Possibly in the near future when we have a stabilized club, we may offer other programs and applications such as homework notices, and teachers' emergency notifications in the web sites. These functions will help students to check for homework assignments or find missed notes while giving teachers an opportunity to inform students of any changes. We may even include a debating and commenting section when we have a trustable system to delete messages containing colloquial languages or cyber bullying.
Also, later on, we will extend our club outside of cyber networking; we will sponsor student musical groups, collect money for charities and the school, and maybe even help fund the school events planned by student council. The knowledge that their own money was used to sponsor the entertainments in school will no doubt make the participation numbers soar.
